WANN: Mi. 2. April & Do. 3. April 2025
WO: Kunst- und Kulturverein Semmelweisklinik, Hockegasse 37, 1180 Wien

As a service and consultancy center for activating urban vacancy and supporting interim uses on behalf of the City of Vienna, we organise a symposium on a bi-annual basis. The next one will focus on the activation of vacant properties and spaces, and the establishment of creative projects. This year’s event is entitled ‘Building Communities: Using Vacancy Cooperatively’.

We will focus on the organisational structures of projects, their embeddedness into urban development processes, and the management of vacant city-owned properties. The following questions are of particular importance:

  • Building communities: What innovative ways of organising creative spaces exist? How are individual projects organised? In what ways can experiences be integrated into differing local contexts and project locations? How can pioneering projects be established in the long term?
  • Cooperative urban development: How can pioneering uses be structurally integrated into urban development processes? Which organisational forms of cooperation between the public and the administration have proved successful?
  • Affordable spaces: What processes have proven successful in activating city-owned properties to create affordable spaces for creative and community uses? What can we learn from other cities in terms of activating publicly owned vacancy?

About Kreative Räume Wien

Since 2016, we have been offering free consultancy and support to owners of vacant spaces, as well as individuals and organizations seeking temporary creative and community-focused projects in fields such as culture, social services, creative industries, education, and neighborhood work. In addition, we place significant emphasis on networking, public relations and awareness-raising in the areas of activation and avoidance of vacancies, interim use and cooperative use concepts.
