Vienna is growing, and at the same time there are empty spaces for housing, culture, education and business. As part of a broad alliance of several Viennese institutions, IG Architektur wants to use the three-part discussion series “Leerstand nutzen! Possibilities for the activation of vacant buildings in Vienna”, IG Architektur aims to discuss the recording and use of vacant buildings and position it as a political issue for the 2025 Vienna state and municipal elections.
Use vacancies!
Today, vacancies are increasingly becoming the focus of discussions about fair use of space. Activating vacant buildings makes an important contribution to climate protection as well as social and ecological sustainability. At the same time, it is a lever for affordable housing and for making public spaces more attractive.
The series of events is dedicated to the vacancy typologies of residential buildings, ground floor zones and commercial buildings, each with a public panel discussion.
How can reliable vacancy figures be obtained and what push and pull measures are needed to activate vacancies?
Part 2: Panel discussion “Vacancy on the ground floor” on 8.11. from 6 pm
Panel discussion 2/ Ground floor vacancies will focus on problems and strategies for identifying and utilizing ground floor vacancies in Vienna.
