Welcome back to all travelers, temporary city escapees and greetings to those who have stayed in Vienna. Our favorite city never sleeps, get out your calendars, several festival formats are coming up in September, we invite you to the RaumCoop project kick-off and also announce a discussion series in autumn.
But first a spatial overview of the temporary use projects in Vienna that we support and in some cases also initiate.
Overview: Creative interim uses in Vienna

We advise and support the projects presented here at various levels.
What does that mean in concrete terms?
For some projects, we already provide support in the start-up phase and are on hand with tips and tricks during the conception and set-up phases. You have the space – we support you in activating it.
For others, we were able to initiate the use as a whole, i.e. accompany the process of vacancy activation from the outset – and work with the owners to find users for a vacant property.
In turn, we draw attention to other interim uses mainly in our consultations for those looking for space and draw attention to the opportunities on site in the projects already underway – whether it’s to get involved, use a space, dock with your own idea or try out the initiative on site.
We therefore network the projects with interested parties and are in contact with them.
Please note: The map only shows current interim uses and not permanent vacancy activations for art, culture, creative industries and social projects. However, we support long-term vacancy activations as well as creative interim use.

Kick-off: RaumCoop – cooperative for affordable shared use of space starts
Looking for affordable space that can be used to realize your project? Interested in innovative solutions to revitalize the first floor zone in the Grätzl? Underused space available that could do with more life?
As part of the StadtkernPlus research project, the idea of the “RaumCoop – cooperative for shared use of space” was born. A non-profit sharing model for rooms is to be developed and tested. Short-term and affordable for everyone who needs a room again and again. The research project with numerous partners is accompanying the pilot phase. We at Kreative Räume Wien are coordinating and supporting the project together with MA25 Technische Stadterneuerung / City of Vienna and Kulturcafe Henriette. And we want even more people to become part of the space cooperative.
The RaumCoop invites you to an introductory meeting and kick-off on September 17. We will present the concept and the rooms that can be booked via the RaumCoop. The focus will be on exchanging ideas with interested parties, because the RaumCoop thrives on the ideas of the people who want to use it.
WHEN: September 17, 2024, 6-7:30 p.m.
WHERE: Kulturcafé Henriette, Staudingergasse 10, 1200 Vienna

VIENNA DESIGN WEEK: Center in the Gürtelbögen New
The multidisciplinary design festival moves through the city from edition to edition, changing its focus district and main venue every year. This year, the DOCKS in the 3rd district are the headquarters of Vienna Design Week. For the first time, the festival headquarters will be located in a new building. The exciting double building is inspired by the Gürtelbögen and was planned by the ARTEC architecture firm. They are part of the VILLAGE IM DRITTEN urban quarter developed by ARE Austrian Real Estate and extend along the Landstraßer Gürtel.
For years, Kreative Räume Wien has supported Vienna Design Week and partner projects that move between creative use of space, design and society. We are therefore particularly pleased that this year we were once again able to successfully network the festival in the search for the main headquarters.
