Announcement: Wild in the West goes into the second round

Wow, how time flies: Back in December, the district newspaper visited the colorful vacant lot development and interim use of Wild im West – together with us and the owners of the space. Fortunately, we can now once again announce this to everyone in Rudolfsheim-Fünfhaus and beyond: The project will enter a second season in April.

We are really looking forward to spring and congratulate the great team behind this fantastic project!

Thanks to the Bezirkszeitung for the report. For the latest information on Wild im West, follow the project on Facebook or Instagram.

F23: Groundbreaking ceremony in Liesing

It will take a little longer, but then the F23 – after the renovation – will be back in a big way. Launched as an interim use, the F23 cultural initiative did a great job in the former coffin factory in Breitenfurter Straße from 2015 to 2021. Now the large factory is being renovated and converted and the entire neighborhood is being developed.

The factory was built between 1913 and 1916 as the “Maschinen-, Kisten- und Holzwarenfabrik M. Koffmahn” according to plans by Hubert Gessner, a student of Otto Wagner. In 1966, the Stadtwerke took over the building and adapted it for coffin production, which was closed in 2013.

Of the initial 40,000m², the listed part of the factory has been left standing in 2022 and will be renovated – probably by 2024. In the meantime, however, the cultural initiative in Vienna’s southernmost district is not bored: the team performs on an empty floor in the post office on Liesinger Platz and in the salon right next to the factory on Breitenfurterstraße. The declared aim of F23 is to make art and culture possible and tangible in all its forms, while always keeping the social component in mind.

Webinars: Tips & tricks on the subject of business premises

Our cooperation partners from the Freie-Lokale-Team, the location service of the Vienna Chamber of Commerce, are once again offering a series of free webinars. In February and March, the topics will be subsidies, finding a location for gastronomy, retail and business facilities.

Research: Vacancy activation as a social innovation

How can spaces be activated so that they offer added value to the local community as attractive places and at the same time become part of a sustainable transformation? As part of the Open Network Meeting on April 27, 2022, the TU WIEN Innovation Workshop focused on the topic of temporary use as a social innovation in urban development.

Input was provided by Uli Fries from Kreative Räume Wien, Christoph Grud from Bäckerei in Innsbruck and Leonie Jung-Irrgang from A.R.E.A.L. in Vienna. The exciting follow-up is now summarized on a few pages. Read or download here.

Another reading tip for those interested in urban exploration: ‘Mix: Possible! Experimental neighborhood development using the example of Nordbahnhof Vienna’!

The book is based on the four-year experimental intervention in the Nordbahnviertel, one of Vienna’s largest development areas. It describes the temporary use of the Nordbahnhalle. It was realized as an experimental interim use in the context of applied research and teaching. We also feature in the book.
