Exciting event information for our friends of creative uses: The interim use of the Funkhaus opens on Saturday, next week IG Architektur is hosting another debate on the topic of ‘Using vacant space’ and the Reallabor Fassfabrik and Atelierhaus Van-der-Nüll-Gasse projects are also opening their doors to visitors.
Also: A reminder to enter the Creatives for Vienna competition – and the daily newspaper Presse reports on strategies for finding space.
Visit: Opening of the Funkhaus
From the end of October until summer 2025, numerous artists will use the second and third floors of the Funkhaus in Argentinierstraße as studios, music rehearsal rooms and other workspaces. An exhibition space, a darkroom and a ceramics workshop will also be set up in the historic building.
The Never at Home association curates and organizes the exciting interim use. We at Kreative Räume Wien support the collective and are delighted that the Funkhaus project is now really taking off!
Next Saturday, November 23, the opening event will take place as an OPEN HOUSE from 3 pm. You can take a look inside the studios, meet the artists – and there will be a drag show, a concert and a party. The 1930s building by Clemens Holzmeister itself is also well worth a visit.

Visit: Reallabor barrel factory
Together with the newly moved-in users, the Reallabor Fassfabrik project is hosting an OPEN HOUSE on Saturday, November 30. The aim is to connect citizens with actors from the fields of art, urban production and research and create space for dialog and creativity. A good opportunity to visit the exciting project on site.
Sculptures, photographs, installations, paintings and works from past workshops can be seen during the guided tours. There is also background information on the industrial history of the district, a chocolate workshop and concerts. The studios and workshops are also open.

Discuss: Use vacancies! Vacancies in commercial buildings
The third and final part of IG Architektur’s series of public events on the subject of ‘Using vacant buildings’ will focus on vacant commercial buildings. Commercial buildings can be former factory halls and production facilities, as well as school buildings, hospitals or barracks.
After a keynote speech by Leona Lynen(Haus der Statistik, Berlin), experts will discuss the individual points in the ‘Use vacant space!’ catalog of demands, which was developed at the end of September by IG Architektur together with numerous initiatives and experts and is now to be discussed in detail in the run-up to the 2025 Vienna City Council elections.

Submit: Creatives for Vienna – Making Spaces
Last Call: Until December 2, 2024, the Vienna Business Agency is inviting creative professionals, space operators and space entrepreneurs to submit their concept for the creative use of spaces to the ‘Creatives for Vienna – Making Spaces’ competition.
The prerequisite for submission is that the project is focused on a specific space. Concepts can be submitted for rooms that are already in use as well as for rooms whose use is still in the planning phase.
WHAT: 10 x 15,000 euros
WHEN: Submit by Mon, December 2, 2024

Save the Date: Stopover – Get to know us!
A brief look ahead to December: on Friday, December 13, the Atelierhaus at Van-der-Nüll-Gasse 20 in Favoriten is hosting an open house entitled ‘Zwischenstopp: Lernt uns mal kennen!’ – including an exhibition of some of the artists who work on site. Since January 2024, several studio communities have moved into the former office space in a building owned by the City of Vienna. Spread the word!
