In the fall, IG Architektur invites you to the event series ‘Leerstand nutzen! Opportunities for the activation of vacant buildings in Vienna’. A total of three discussion events are planned in October and November 2024 to discuss the use of vacant buildings in Vienna on a broad basis and to position it as a political issue for the 2025 Vienna state and municipal elections.
Three themes: Residential, ground floor and commercial buildings
As part of the event series, the use of vacant buildings in Vienna will be discussed in three different vacancy typologies: Residential, ground floor and commercial buildings. These vacancy typologies will each be addressed in a public panel discussion and their use by housing, social and cultural groups and small businesses will be discussed. Vacancies in existing buildings will be addressed, but also the proactive integration of affordable cultural spaces and small businesses in new buildings as a strategic tool for urban development.
A sneak peek: On November 8, Uli Fries from Kreative Räume Wien will also be on the podium to discuss the topic of ‘vacancies on the ground floor’.
